# Garlic or Black Garlic?

Black garlic is not a separate species; it is made by keeping the same plant (Allium sativum) at controlled heat and humidity for weeks. The EMA assessment of garlic preparations does not cover black garlic, whose data come from small studies. The table is built from the sourced cards of both records.

## Good to know

- People on blood thinners or aspirin should talk to their doctor before taking supplements of either form, and tell their doctor before surgery.
- People allergic to garlic should also avoid black garlic.
- These warnings concern supplements; garlic in normal cooking amounts is outside their scope.
